Benefits for Veterans

Our Veterans Affairs team is here to help you navigate the benefits available to you, including: 

  • Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30)

    The Montgomery GI Bill® (MGIB) program provides up to 36 months of education benefits to eligible service members and veterans. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Remedial, deficiency, and refresher courses may be approved under certain circumstances. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following your release from active duty. This program is also commonly known as Chapter 30.

    How to Use Your Benefits

    Submit your VA paperwork to CIAM

    Send a copy of your certificate of eligibility (COE) or a copy of your VA application confirmation page to the School Certifying Official. If you have never applied for your Chapter 30 education benefits complete the online application (VA Form 22-1990).


    If you have previously used your Chapter 30 benefit with another school, you will need to transfer your benefits to CIAM with the Change Program/Place of Training application (VA Form 22-1995).

  • Post-9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33)

    The Post-9/11 GI Bill® veteran education benefits provide financial support for education and housing* to individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®.

    *In order to receive the full housing allowance, you must attend an in-residence class.

    What is my percentage of eligibility?

    Percentage of eligibility is based on the duration of service as well as other factors which are calculated by the Department of Veterans Affairs. If you do not know your percentage of eligibility, please contact the School Certifying Official at [email protected] so that they can provide you instructions on how to retrieve it.


    What if I'm already using my Montgomery GI Bill® and want to switch to the Post 9/11 GI Bill®?

    If you are eligible for Montgomery GI Bill® and you have met the eligibility requirements for the Post-9/11 GI Bill®, you may elect to receive benefits under the new program. Please contact the VA Regional Office prior to transitioning from one chapter of entitlement to another as the relinquishment of chapters may occur in the transfer process. The relinquishment process is irrevocable.

    How do I receive TOE benefits?

    1. The service member must apply to transfer his/her eligibility to a dependent with Department of Defense.
    2. Once the service member receives the approval from the DoD, the dependent must apply for their benefits with the VA (form 22-1990e).

    Send a copy of your certificate of eligibility (COE) or a copy of your VA application confirmation page to the School Certifying Official. If you have never applied for your Chapter 33 education benefits complete the online application (VA Form 22-1990).


    If you have used your Chapter 33 benefit with another school, you will need to transfer your benefits to CIAM  with the Change Program/Place of Training application (VA Form 22-1995).


    You will need to save a copy of the application confirmation page and forward it via email to [email protected]  Be sure to indicate the chapter of entitlement you submitted on the VA Form 22-1995

  • Dependent Education Assistance Program (Chapter 35 VA Benefits)

    Dependent Education Assistance Program (Chapter 35) provides educational benefits to the spouse and child or children of veterans who either passed away or became 100% disabled because of a service-connected disability.


    Eligibility

    Survivors and dependents are allowed up to 45 months of full-time benefits. Spouses have 10 years from the date of the veteran’s effective date of permanent and total disability rating or the veteran’s death. Eligibility is determined by the Department of Veterans Affairs – you can find detailed information on the VA website

    Submit your VA paperwork to CIAM

    Send a copy of your certificate of eligibility (COE) or a copy of your VA application confirmation page to the School Certifying Official. If you have never applied for your Chapter 33 education benefits complete the online application (VA Form 22-5490).

  • Yellow Ribbon Program

    The Yellow Ribbon Program is a provision of the Post-9/11 GI Bill that helps cover tuition and fees for U.S. military veterans attending private, out-of-state, or graduate schools. Participating schools voluntarily contribute additional funds, which the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) matches, reducing or eliminating out-of-pocket costs for eligible veterans and their dependents.

  • How do I apply to CIAM?

  • How do I send an official transcript?

    If you have completed military training (including JST Transcript) or your college, you are responsible for providing those official documents to CIAM directly. If you have attended institutions outside of the U.S., please arrange to have your transcript(s) evaluated by a NACES approved Credential Evaluation Service and send the ORIGINAL evaluation to CIAM directly.

  • Do I need to send a resume, letters of reference, or an essay?

    You only need to submit a resume if you are applying for a graduate program at CIAM.

  • Does CIAM participate in ArmyIgnitED (previously GoArmyEd) or other types of military-affiliated tuition programs?

    No

  • Is CIAM a military-supportive university that accepts military benefits such as Veterans Affairs benefits and Tuition Assistance for active duty, veterans, and families?

    Yes

  • Does CIAM accept military transfer credits?

    Yes. CIAM recognizes the foundations you've developed during your military career. You can transfer a maximum of 6 graduate units. We ensure a smooth transition working with our military and veteran students to evaluate credits.

  • Does CIAM participate in the Yellow Ribbon GI Enhancement Program?

    CIAM is proud to be a participating institution of the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program. The Yellow Ribbon program is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows institutions of higher learning in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the public in-state undergraduate tuition rate.
