Strategic Financial Insight for Business Decision-Making
Turning numbers into strategy

In today’s business environment, leaders are continually challenged to make informed decisions about growth, profitability, resource allocation, pricing, operational efficiency, and long-term sustainability. Effective decision-making requires more than financial reporting—it requires meaningful analysis of the information behind the numbers.

CIAM’s MBA Managerial Accounting Consulting Project connects organizations with graduate-level consulting teams who apply managerial accounting principles to real-world organizational challenges.

At no cost to participating organizations and under faculty guidance, MBA students analyze financial information, identify opportunities for improvement, and provide actionable recommendations to support strategic decision-making.

The Process

How the Consulting Project Works

Through a structured consulting process, student teams examine information provided by participating organizations to evaluate business challenges, explore alternatives, and develop recommendations that may support financial sustainability and scalability.

At the conclusion of the term, organizations receive a professional consulting report and participate in a final live or virtual presentation. Many participating organizations gain fresh insight into opportunities, efficiencies, cost-saving measures, performance trends, and strategic considerations that may not have been previously visible.

For Organizations

The MBA Managerial Accounting Consulting Project is designed to provide organizations with fresh perspectives informed by current academic research, managerial accounting principles, and structured business analysis. At the same time, the project gives CIAM MBA students the opportunity to apply classroom learning to real-world business situations.

For Students

Student consulting teams serve in an advisory capacity under faculty supervision. Their role is not to perform accounting, bookkeeping, auditing, implementation, management, or operational functions on behalf of the organization. Rather, students analyze information provided by the organization, conduct research, evaluate findings, and develop recommendations for leadership’s consideration.

Before You Begin

Important Program Information

There is no fee to participate. All work is completed virtually, and a statement of confidentiality is signed before student teams begin working with the organization. All information shared by participating organizations remains strictly confidential and will not be published, disclosed, or shared outside the consulting team and faculty supervisors.

Participating organizations are asked to contribute their time, information, and collaboration throughout the consulting process. Student teams contribute research, analysis, and recommendations as part of their MBA coursework.

Each consulting engagement is unique. Project recommendations and outcomes will vary based on the organization’s objectives, available information, project scope, business complexity, and the composition of the student consulting team. While organizations often find value in the analysis and recommendations generated through the project, specific financial or business results cannot be guaranteed. Implementation decisions and organizational actions remain solely the responsibility of the participating organization.

Organizations should view this experience as an opportunity to gain objective analysis, explore alternative approaches, and receive recommendations that may support improved decision-making and financial planning.
